“A baby boy has drowned and a search for eight asylum seekers lost at sea continues as the federal government looks at how to adjust its border protection policies. Another 88 asylum seekers were rescued as their boat began to sink north of Christmas Island. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said the ‘genuine human tragedy’ of the incident underlined the need for the government to keep adjusting its border protection policies. Homes Affairs Minister Jason Clare said authorities were alerted on Friday morning about the sinking boat by a Melbourne man who had been called by someone on the vessel. Shortly after a Customs ship found the boat and its 97 passengers, it was swamped by a wave. The Customs vessel rescued 88 people and recovered the body of a boy believed to be aged under one-year-old. The rescued asylum seekers, who are from Iran, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, were taken to Christmas Island”
